Job interview OOTD :)

Here are a few pictures of one of my job interview outfits- I did have another interview to go to this morning, which I think went well. I've been wanting to do a post about my job interview clothes for a while.

While I was a marketing assistant, I had to dress up every day so I have a semi-decent closet of professional wear at this point. I say semi, because I don't have a blazer that actually fits! I prefer the feel of cardigans anyways.

I think for job interviews, especially at the level (experienced, nonmanager) I am applying for, this is a really great outfit. I do feel the shirt may be a bit too shapeless/needed a little ironingohmygod, but I don't think it's a dealbreaker for the look. The cardigan does add a bit of casual to a look that may be too much with a blazer, but is still professional and could not be mistaken as casual.

I'm not sure how I feel about doing OOTD posts- my boyfriend took these as I don't have a tripod and I feel weird on camera! But in my search for appropriate job interview outfit styles I was almost hard pressed to find something that I felt comfortable with, so I hope this help someone!

  1. I love seeing what other people where for interviews. It validates my own decisions. lol Also, being on the other side where I was the one hiring people- clothes are a big deal. I felt more comfortable hiring someone that was more on the professional side rather than the trendy side- for the office job I was working at (not like a fashion job, then I think I'dd probably go for the more trendy looking person lol) If that makes sense. IDK why either, I thought maybe they'd be more serious about the job? who knows.

    1. Sometimes I worry about overobsessing about my appearance for interviews- but I try to stick with 'the most important impressions are made within the first 15 seconds' mindset? At least if you present professionally, you'll be remembered for your abilities and not your dress haha.
IA, if I was interviewing and someone looked super casual I would think they weren't taking the opportunity seriously as well.

  2. Congrats on your new job! I don't exactly love posing for outfit posts. I am so not comfortable in front of the camera, but it gets a little less nerve recking as you do more. I guess. I do love going back to see what I wore for different occasions though, and I love to see what other people are wearing and how they are mixing thing. your outfit is adorable! I think you should do more:)

    1. Thanks! I hope I get more used to it, I used to get my photo taken pretty regularly but it felt so strange! I do love seeing others OOTD too.
That will be great- having a fashion diary of sorts, I hadn't thought of that!

  3. So cute!!
Jeez I haven't interviewed for a few years but I remember obsessing over what I wore to them. It's hard for me (someone who stays in pjs for days on end) to get up and get dressed in business casual attire every day for my job. Cardigans are my lifesaver lol. I clean target out every time I'm there haha.

    1. That's how I was on the first interview I went on- I had been in sweats for two weeks! (I wear them as often as possible.)
Cardigans are the same for me! That is my favorite cardigan ever, I'm going to try and grab some more tonight from that brand.

    1. Thank you! That's what I was thinking when I took the pictures- all the resources I found on 'what to wear to a job interview' always seemed to be on about.com or something, so I wanted to share. :)

  7. You look great, Stephanie. The outfit fits you well. Dressing professionally is the first step to be able to win an interview. By dressing smart, you are sending a message to your interviewer that you have to be taken seriously. Good job!
